il Bel Paese

It’s been a while since we’ve travelled as a family. Travelled far – to some place we’ve not seen before.

Away from daily routines, societal pressures and domestic distractions. To new landscapes, honest foods, an effortless culture, and breathtaking views. To a place and a people that can only be described as a work of art.

We re-discovered some forgotten joys, reconnected, and gained new perspectives.

In the lovely city of Merano. If life permits – we will be back

We also learned a few new words, faced bus drivers gesticulating in brief  espresso-fuelled eruptions at us, helped carry each other’s luggage between numerous trains, buses and taxis, often enjoyed the locals’ laughter, were awestruck by the snow-capped Alps, traversed narrow streets,  listened in our rented beds as early morning church bells rang a melodic tune over the city, and learnt about when (not) to eat the breads.

Life and time will play their tricks, but hopefully we will be lucky enough to enjoy another similar expedition in years to come. In this place called “Italy”… il Bel Paese.
